Who do I contact if my child is going to be absent?
If your child is sick, please phone reception and leave a message on 04-479 6685 or email firstname.lastname@example.org with the child’s name, room number and the reason for their absence. It is also helpful to cc the classroom teacher into the email. Please also let reception know if your child is going to be away for an extended time such as on holiday.
How do I make contact with my child’s teacher?
Teachers are available in their classes on school days from 8.30am for a brief conversation. If you would like more time to meet, please contact the teacher, either in person or via email to make an appointment.
How do I know when there is an upcoming event or if something is cancelled?
Upcoming events and cancellations will be on our Facebook page. Urgent and important notices will appear on the front page of this website. School newsletters go home every second Thursday via email and this has many of the upcoming events. Occasionally children will also bring home special paper copy notices.
What is the school bank account number?
We bank with ASB and our account number is 12-3223-0137390-00. If you are making a payment, please include the child’s family name, room number and specific reference eg. Artsplash Tickets.
How are the school syndicates organised?
Our school is organised into two syndicates.
The junior syndicate consists of two teams, Kowhai, Years 0 – 1/2 in Rooms 1 – 5, and Matai, Years 2 -3 in Rooms 7 – 12.
The senior syndicate is made up of the Kauri Team, Years 4 – 6 in Room 13 – 20.
What are the school houses?
On enrolment pupils are placed in one of four houses: Rajkot (Red), Calcutta (Blue), Simla (Yellow) and Amritsar (Green). Siblings are placed together. The houses are used for school wide activities, such as sports days or swimming festivals, where students are encouraged to dress in ‘house colours’.
Where can I park when I come to visit?
Parking is limited at Khandallah School. There is one car park in the staff car park for visitors at the top of the driveway on Clark St. If this is occupied, please use Clark Street, Simla Crescent or surrounding streets. There is also an additional car park next to Khandallah Park. The staff car park is not to be used by parents, students or Easy Swim clients between 8.30am and 4.30pm Monday – Friday.
What options are available for after school care?
YMCA host a before school, after-school and holiday program onsite. Please see their website www.ymcawellington.org.nz
What options are there for lunch orders and how do I order these?
We offer Pita Pit on Mondays and Fridays, Subway on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and Sushi on Wednesdays. Pita Pit (Pita Pit Menu) and Subway (Subway Menu) order forms are in the office foyer, these must be completed and in the box by 9am on the day of ordering. Sushi is ordered online here. Once a term, the Home and School have a sausage sizzle lunch. Information goes home about this with children when it is coming up.
Where can I pick up and drop off my child?
For quick pick-ups and drop offs, before and after school, where children are just getting in and out, the drop off on Clark Street is ideal. This is a no stopping zone and designed for children who can get in and out of the car independently. Alternatively, there is parking available on Clark Street, Simla Crescent and Woodmancote Road. Road patrols run on Clark Street and Woodmancote Road daily.
If you are picking up or dropping off your child during school hours, they must be signed in/out at reception.

How can I get involved in school life?
At Khandallah School we are very fortunate to have the Home and School Association whose main goal is to bridge the gap between home and school environments. In doing so, it provides opportunities for fundraising which directly helps the school. Some of the major fundraisers include the Fair, usually held in November, sausage sizzles, calendar art, discos and many more. To get involved, please contact Hands@khandallah.school.nz.
What about homework?
At Khandallah School, homework is not compulsory but it is a great opportunity to reinforce your child’s learning. Homework is different in all three syndicates, your child’s teacher will provide details of any homework requirements.
In Kowhai, new entrant children bring home alphabet/letter formation homework each night from Monday – Thursday. Once they are working at Red level in class for reading, they start bringing a reading book home instead. On Fridays, they all bring home a poem book to share a poem with their parents.
Does my child have to wear a hat?
Yes. Children are expected to wear wide brimmed hats in Term 1 and 4. If they do not have a wide brimmed hat in these terms, they will be asked to play in shaded spots. Caps, snapbacks and other such hats are not acceptable. Khandallah School sunhats are available for purchase in the school office for $21.
When is school assembly?
Due to the growing number of children we now have Junior school assemblies and Senior school Assemblies. The Junior assembly is at 1.30pm on even week Fridays and Kauri at 2.15pm on even week Fridays. Both assemblies are held in the hall.
What other activities are available for my child to take part in?
